From what to what exactly? I mean you have anything from the free Handbrake to Apple's Final Cut Studio depending on your needs.

I don't know but when I purchased my macbook, it already comes with a video converter for free. It converts movies to m4v.

I complete agree with using handbrake, but if your looking for more detailed conversions, I would simply use VLC and the export wizard to get more detailed about the codecs for audio, video, and subtitles.

I am using Total Video Converter from App store, a brother of its famous windows version.

But if your os is lower than 10.6.6, you can google it, and the first result will be the right.

Good luck
