Question

How to convert MPO (3D) file to normal photo - help please!

Jun 12, 2015 1:20PM PDT

Hi everyone!

I hope I'm in the right forum...to be honest, I'm just very lost and didn't know where to turn. I made a huge mistake on vacation in Italy a few weeks ago and somehow, some way, my camera was set to take 3D photos for an entire day of touring ancient ruins. I blame my Sony TX30's touch screen, super hard to see in the sun -- one accidental click and you'll never something's awry until later. Sad This happened once before, but last time, my camera saved a copy of the non-MPO file along with it...no such luck this time, I'm afraid.

Does anyone know of a simple way to convert MPO files to a normal picture file? I am using a very outdated Mac (10.6), so an free, online converter or something of the like would be much preferable.

In a few months, I will be back home and be able to use my brand new Windows computer, which I believe is easier to convert with (at least I've seen more online converters for Windows). If I have to wait that long, I will, but if anyone knows of a quick fix, I'd be ETERNALLY grateful!!!

Thanks so much in advance.

Let's google a little.

https://www.google.com/search?q=t+MPO+files+to+a+normal+picture+file&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 finds apps and tutorials on this.

http://cstein.kings.cam.ac.uk/~chris/mposplit/ seems downright simple to use.

There's a free program that can manipulate .mpo files just as you'd like.
http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/
It can turn two .jpg images into one .mpo file, and it can extract two .jpg files from an .mpo file.

Since command line use is considered a basic skill, I'll say this is done for at least most folk on Windows. Online didn't come up with much.

No dice :(

Hey, thanks for all your help! Unfortunately, none of the options worked.

Chris's mposplit command only produced a "command not found" response in Terminal. Admittedly, I don't use Terminal and could've done something wrong, but it seemed pretty simple so I think I did everything right.

Stereomerger requires a paid license, but when I went to try the free trial, it just continuously froze lol.

MPO QuickLook Plugin wouldn't run/work.

Adobe Photoshop CS6 - no idea how to get that for free.

Andddd lastly, StereoPhoto only works on Windows. Sad

I really appreciate your help though! Thank you!

The command not found

Just means we need to do the usual DIR to see if we are on the folder with the .exe so it will run. Sadly I think a lot of folk today are skipping the command line.
