How to convert MOD files to something like AVI or MPG

Mar 11, 2009 11:37PM PDT

Ok, this could get ugly, I recently got a JVC Evario or whatever it's called and it makes MOD files, right? Well, I can't just change the extention, and I can't edit it in this format, as windows movie maker does not recognize it. Problem is, the cyberthing powerdirector, needs my screen resolution to get better than it will on my comp. I have a netbook and it's kinda crap, but I need to edit a music video for my bands press kit. I realize that I may have to put some money into it, but I've tried like 5 programs that I've found, all I need is a free converter that WON"T mark my video in the process. Any idea's?

use virtualdub-mpeg2

You could download the freeware virtualdub-mpeg2 and the free panasonic dv codec.
Then load your MOD files into virtualdub and convert them to dv-avi using the panasonic codec.

Virtual Dub

I don't understand vitual dub. I import video, and it plays it, but where can you convert it to AVI? Is there an output folder? This program is really stripped down, I have no idea where it would be hiding....

First, under Video->Compression you need to specify what codec should be used to create the avi file. If you have installed the Panasonic dv codec then it should be listed there.
Then, you can create the new AVi under file->Save As Avi

.MOD is a mpeg file

if you have the "show file extensions" options on so the file reads "xxxx.MOD", just change the letters to .MPG

.MOD is a mpeg file, just the letters are different

.Mod and .Tod
Apr 7, 2009 11:59AM PDT

Hi all, .Mod and .Tod videos are mainly produced by digital harddisk camcorder such as JVC camcorder and so on. It is not common video formats and can only be played on some special players, if you want to watch these video on your iPod, iPhone, PSP, Archos and other portable devices you need a MOD Converter, i use 4Videosoft Tod Mod Converter which works well for me, more info can visite their official site: http://www.4videosoft.com/tod-mod-converter.html
