As far as i know, if your DVDs are protected, you need some way to defeat that. In no uncertain terms, that's not always possible. You may want to look at AnyDVD s/w and see how that works, as it's sold for this purpose. You then use whatever other converter s/w like HandBrake to finish the process. I'm sure there are "1 pkg. bundles" available if you get into this area of video storage, but I don't do much more than use the basics which may or may not work.

There are commercial offerings but most are SPAMMED in forums and are junk.

My current methods are Handbrake and when the DVD gives me a digital copy, that's what I use.

which may explain why Handbreak had a problem and why VLC is up to 9 hours.
