Sorry but if HP blew it, you should return it fast. My last HP was a disaster with no repair possible on a 3 month old laptop. It appears the company has deep issues still.

Good Morning Mr Proffitt. Thanks for replies, not quite sure what or who, you refer to as HP (HewitPackard?)
My supplier is JLR Online Ltd, on E Bay.
any way. info > My router, Speedtouch secured with WPA PSK..
I can not seem to find the Speedtouch controls on my PC, searches do not show this, any idea where it might be hidden?
Which password should I use, when the tablet wi fi asks me? is it my aol pass, or tablet pass, I have tried both to not avail.
Regards Michael

The password would be the router user password.

Not the admin password or aol or your tablet password.

There are far too many speedtouch models but ask the person who set it up for the password to both the user and the admin. That's 2 more passwords.

SOME routers have a PIN code or a push button to connect but there are so many SpeedTouch models I can't guess if yours has that feature.

PS. About HP, yes you guessed it. My experience is not a good one and was in the USA where I rarely have any in warranty issues but they botched it up so badly as well as the discovery they can't fix product issues because they "buy the BIOS" and more. Because they don't develop and create their own stuff they can't fix it. Until they get back into the business of engineering products it looks like they are a shadow of the company I once knew.

Answer
For a test. Try other hotspots.

And about authentication. If it's WEP, this happens a lot. You'll have to tell me a little more about the router settings and especially if you enabled the MAC filtering and which security and if you hid the SSID.
