How to connect to wifi

by oldronruns / March 12, 2008 11:48 AM PDT

I have a HP laptop with windows Vista. So many places, motels, Starbucks, etc., apparently allow their customers to hook up to the internet with wifi. Can someone please advise or refer me to a website that will explain how to set up my computer and exactly what I need to do so. Thanks.

Make and model would have been helpful, so this will be general.

There should be a switch in the front. If I'm correct, orange is off and blue is on.

Look for available wireless networks. Click on the one you want to connect to. If they have a password, then you have to enter the password.

Where to look and what for

You are asking for low-grade information. At least, most likely. Either the author(s)is a company pushing its own product or a user with an agenda. You could get good info from a website, but you never know.

The problem you have is really solved by looking in a bound and printed, ordinary book. There're a trillion on wifi st B&N (Starbucks). Today's traveller, from business to leisure, brings a computing device using wifi everywhere. So look for a book, not online information -- you don't want misinformation.

Thanks guys. I was looking for more basic information, such as preferred routers, and any other tips that might help someone new to WiFi. I'm sure I can find it on CNET. They know everything.

Thanks again.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
