Question

How to connect stereo speakers to my tv / blueray player

May 7, 2015 12:14AM PDT

Samsung plasma tv with a Digital Audio Output (optical) and Samsung blueray dvd player with a Coaxial Digital Audio Output. These are the only audio outputs on the devices. How do I connect external speakers (e.g., computer speakers) to either the tv or the dvd player? I don't want a soundbar or surround sound system, just external speakers to improve tv sound quality. I only watch dvd's, no games, etc. Thanks.

Most TVs don't drive speakers as the analog output is usual only good for headphones. And many Samsungs have a fixed level output so your volume control is up to whatever the solution you add.

Frankly, limiting yourself to no bar or sound system means it may be an unsettling mess.

The continued issue with those is that the volume control is often non-functional. Let's hope that's a non issue for them.
