how to connect seagate 160 GB HDD to adaptec 3.5"?

Feb 2, 2007 2:19PM PST

I'm wondering if I have non-compatible components here... I have a Seagate 160 GB serial ATA/300 7200 rpm 3.5" drive, and I have an Adaptec enclosure for 3.5". The enclosure has, I think it's called a ribbon cable?, and also some other cable. But anyway, I'm not sure what they are but they aren't connecting to the HDD, which is this model, picture at the bottom of the page, (http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=96ca3b0c2aeef010VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=f424072516d8c010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&locale=en-US&reqPage=Legacy) and doesn't seem to have anywhere to connect to the ribbon cable (or the other cable in the enclosure). Now, the HDD comes with its own cables for installing within an actual computer, but I'm interested in making this internal hard drive an external hard drive by using the adaptec enclosure. What did I do wrong? If you could help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
