Question

How to connect old Mac Mini to new iMac

May 3, 2018 2:06PM PDT

I got a new iMac and want to transfer files from the Mini to the iMac.

You supposedly can connect Mac Mini Firewire to a new iMac, but I can't find a cable or adapter that will do it.

The Mini has a rectangular female socket, that fits the male rectangular plug on my FW cable. The other end of the cable has the thinner plug with the angle on one side. The Apple TB to FW adapter I bought has a rectangular socket, not one for the thinner plug, and the other end of the adapter has a small D-shaped plug that won't fit any of the iMac ports.

So what will work? USB2 adapters are available. How about Ethernet? The Mini is running Snow Leopard.
