How to connect my TV to my Dell M6500

Mar 11, 2011 12:47PM PST

I have a Dell M6500 with Displayport (no HDMI). It has a 1.0GB ATI FirePro M7820 Graphics card. I want to connect it to my Phillips 42PFL7422D 42 inch TV with HDMI. I get a great picture...but no sound with a DP to HDMI adaptor. Am I missing something? Is there a tweak I am not aware of? I updated the TV's firmware. Still no go. Man why cant Dell have HDMI? Argghhhh. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Of course, many systems do have HDMI.

Check the audio properties and see if you can change the audio out device to DP.

No go

I tried that....no go. Another weird thing. I tried connecting my headphone jack to audio thru a y connector out and that doesnt have sound either. Seems like something new going on. Anyone see this before?

Thanks all.

When you connected through the DP, did your default audio adapter change? Why not unplug the TV, then check to make sure the audio is working, then plug it back in and see what's changed.
