How-To:Connect LED TV, Receiver, Blu-Ray and HD Cable Box

Dec 3, 2010 6:34AM PST

Need Help. I have an older receiver, without a remote. I would like to run everything through my receiver to have the use of wall mounted speakers vs tv speakers. Please provide step by step instruction to connect the following:

Philips LED TV
Sony Blu-Ray
Sony #STR-DE697 Receiver (no remote, no code available per Sony)
---which inputs/outputs best for this older system?
Time Warner HD Cable Box.

What inputs are available on that Sony . . .

If all you have are red/white inputs, just plug the other stuff in. And no, there are no converter cables if the only outputs on the other devices are digital.

Here's how I problaly would do it.

The simplest way is to connect an optical audio cable from the TV to the Sony receiver. That way..all the sound from the tv will go to the Sony (hence the wall speakers). But be sure to "mute" the tv speaker sound though or you you might hear an echo effect. All other components will be hook up to the tv directly. This may not be the best but it's the simplest. Good luck.
