Question

How to connect acer with xp to sony bravia

Aug 5, 2011 8:40AM PDT

I have an ACER netbook running xp home edition. I want to run Video from my netbook through my Sony Bravia flat screen.

I have connected the 15 pin VGA plugs between the Acer and the Sony.
Choose PC in as the TV input.
When I start the computer the windows logo appears onthe the TV screen, however, then the TV screen goes blank and the message is "no signal". This happens before the user screen comes on or the windows sound plays.
Obviously a video signal is being transmitted for a very short time, but then nothing.
Not great at tech problems can anybody help?
Thanks

Obviously the signal is getting through at first, but then nothing. I have tried several times and the same thing happens every time.

Answer
The VGA output probably is not setup yet

After the netbook is completely booted and the TV is connected in the way it shows "the windows logo appears onthe the TV screen", right click on an empty spot on the desktop. If you have NVidia video card, then click "NVideo Control Panel" and then "Run television setup wizard". Follow the steps.
If you have ATI video card, see here: http://neverdc.com/software/how-to-setup-a-tv-out-for-ati-graphic-cards

Got video no audio/image does not fill screen

Thanks
I used the ATI video card method and got the picture to my TV screen. The image only takes up about 3/4 the screen in the center on my 37 inch Sony Bravia flat screen. Is this normal?
Running an mkv video file.

I connected a cable from audio (headphone) jack on the computer to the audio jack under the PC vga connector on the TV and no sound came through.

I also tried connected a cable with an audio jack that fits the computer audio(headphone) out and has right left RCA plugs to the audio in RCA receivers on the back of the TV still no sound.

There is sound coming from the lap top.

Any ideas?

Thanks again for your help
