after uninstallation??

I'm having computer crashes when i run this program after i reinstall it. I'm assuming the previous installation have left regedit or windows files on my computer. so how to clean it out completely?

i thought about formatting the computer but too many stuffs have to backup so that's not an option 'yet'.

It Depends

What OS are you using, and what program? This makes a difference.

Try these...

Try downloading and running the free programs CCleaner and TweakNow. CCleaner will scan you computer and clean out most old/obsolete files and correct common association errors, while RegCleaner will perform a similar procedure on your registry. Combined, those programs should remove most traces of the previous installation of the program in question. No program will catch everything, so I'm sure others will make recommendations too. However, those two have always done the trick for me.

Hope this helps,
John

P.S. If you provide more information, such as your OS and the name of the program, there may be a known issue that can be taken care of.

I use a free program called "DustbusterXP", it cleans a bunch of junk files left over from downloads and uninstalls, etc. Good luck.

I recommend against it...

Normally I don't discourage the use of programs which are designed to help, especially when they're malware free, but this is an exception. I must agree with Cnet's download.com Editor's Review, which was generous in giving this utility 2/5 stars. The only things going for this program are its small size (70KB) and the fact it runs on Windows 98 through 2003.

The highlights:
* There is no user interface.
* Launching the program presents a small dialog box, which stays on top of all other windows and cannot be minimized.
* You cannot change the scan settings, period.
* You are not told what is being scanned, or what is being removed, only its percent completion. (I've heard several complaints about it deleting required program files without even notifying the user!)
* The scan is extremely slow. (It took nearly an hour to scan one of my ''testers,'' which has an 80GB hard drive.)
* Once the scan starts, it cannot be canceled.
* It only found a few things missed by my other scans, which took about a minute each.

Given this program's limited usefulness and potential for causing serious problems with your computer, I recommend staying away from Dustbuster XP.

John
