Have it forget all network connections. Add the one back in.

Alot of people use the term memory

incorrectly. Memory and storage space are different. Storage space is permanent until deleted and internal memory is cleared when you power the phone off. Phones aren't as good as computers at removing tasks that are running but there is a way on the Iphone to stop all task running in the background. I would google stopping task on an Iphone.

Easy but Time Consuming

Backup your iPhone on iTunes and then restore it to factory settings when again backing up, Sync all the messages, contacts, calendar and important stuff but try to install the priority apps that you need to use most. Older models would do well with this option like my 4s, but newer models shouldn't be as much slow cause Apple has a great software to hardware optimization.

Delete some apps

I honestly don't think that you should clean your whole phone cause you might end up losing some pictures, contacts or other important information in the phone. I look through my phone and delete apps and pictures that I do not need. Deleting a few apps gives me lots of memory in the phone.
