Question

How to change Principal user

Sep 11, 2014 12:23AM PDT

The principal user was my husband who passed away last year. I would like to have my name listed as the principal user. As it is I am told I have to have permission from the principal user.

Answer
I'd make 2 new accounts.

http://support.apple.com/kb/PH6651 details how to make user accounts. My choice would be to create 2 new accounts.

1. An Admin account for use to do admin work.
2. An User account for your own use.

I think the problem may be that the OP does not

know the Admin password for the Admin (Principle User) account.
If that is the case, she will have some password resetting to do.

On the other hand, if the password is known, she only needs to log into that account and follow the instructions at the link that Bob supplied.

I'd start with making a new Admin account.

That way, I don't have to ask for permission to make changes.

Nothing at all.

The OP (original poster) needs to get back with if this works or not, then if not, supply the missing detail of OS X version so we can chat about what to do next.

Changing Administraators
Sep 13, 2014 6:51AM PDT

I was able to unlock the preferences and have my husbands name listed as standard and me as Admin. But Comcast still won' t let me change it. I had a chat with someone today and they want me to call another customer service number for more help. So I will get back with you when I am able to talk to Comcast. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Ahh, That makes thing clearer.

Good luck with Comcast Customer Support (an oxymoron) as they will run you ragged without actually doing anything for you.

I think we misunderstood what it was that you were trying to do in your original post, in that we presumed that you were trying to change the Users on your Mac, I see you did that easily and not that you wanted your Comcast account put in your name as the Principle User.
