Setup Firefox 3.6.8 to English Language
Aug 18, 2010 2:43PM PDT

After spending few hours and testing how to change the language of my Firefox 3.6.8 from Chinese to en-US (English), I come across this only option so far (the about:config trick didn't work for me).

1. Unistall your previous Firefox browser instalation.
2. Go to: Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Change Location -> (set) United States.
3. Find a good proxy or VPN with USA IP.
4. Go to: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html and download your desired Firefox with your desired language (I chose: http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.6.8&os=win&lang=en-US).
5. Download it and install it.
Done!

Note: As far as I understand the Firefox will look about your OS language (mine is the English version), your OS keyboard languages (mine set for US and chinese), OS Control Panel Location (mine was set to USA), and your location at the moment when you execute the download for the Firefox browser app (mine was China but at that time I used a VPN which confirmed my location as USA).

Why Proxy or VPN?
Aug 18, 2010 7:57PM PDT

May be it is required in China or similar restrictive nation, but for any western country it is useless and not needed.

Clicking on those links you gave I was taken to those US web sites without problem, and I am in the UK.

By the way, your site promotion will be edited out by the Forum Admin.

Alex.

I informed you in my reply to your first post that your "Site Promotion" would be edited out by the Forum Admin.

Your reply to me included that site promotion again, so I have deleted your post.

No site promotion - human mistake

It is not site promotion, consider it as a human mistake, don't take it as a personal offense.

Peace?!

download another version
Sep 2, 2010 7:39PM PDT

But can't you just download another version that is in your own language?

will not work!
Sep 6, 2010 1:25AM PDT

Download will not work, for me didn't work so far.

I was in China at that moment, I was running a win OS English version, but still the Firefox get installed in Chinese. As I remember long time ago, before the installing package let users to chose by themselves the installation language, at this moment it is still a mess.

In China
Sep 6, 2010 2:59AM PDT

Well that makes sense.

Knowing the restrictions in China it does not surprise me that any Firefox download was the Chinese version only.

Best to start again. Uninstall Firefox completely, reboot, then install the English Language version.

I tried before..
Sep 7, 2010 12:35AM PDT

@Mark,

I tried before! uninstalling Firefox, delete everything Firefox related, cleaning cash and computer history, rebooting computer, downloading one more time Firefox the USA version, reinstalling Firefox and...' surprise' same- Chinese version. So this is why I post in here my experience with Firefox browser.
