How to activate Windows 8 for free

Hello people, my HP 250 (G3) laptop's windows 8 just expired and I have been asked to activate.

This is the third time I am activating this within 3 years and it kept expiring after a year. Spent so much on this already.

Meanwhile, the default activation key that comes with the system has scratched off. So is there a way I can do this without spending a dime this time?

The first thing that comes to mind is the phone calls I get telling me that my Windows license has expired and I need to call some phone number to get it renewed. These are scams. A Windows OS license does not expire. It can, however, be rendered invalid due to hardware changes on ones PC. Tell more.

Windows 8 ISO is free

Your computer came shipped with w8.1 Home/Pro

Get your Windows 8.1 ISO here:
Select 8.1 in the drop down menu, first one on the list.

The product key is embedded into the BIOS if your motherboard came shipped with 8.1

Once you install the Microsoft Windows 8.1 ISO, it will usually, automatically install the correct version of your OS.

Check your computer for malware by installing Webroot, free trial available here:

Backup your data before reinstalling your OS, which is recommended based on your current situation. There are Windows tweaks & tricks as well as 3rd party software to attempt to activate or extend your copy of Windows, however, the legitimate and safest way to run Windows is by installing/running a full, legal copy of the operating system with the latest security updates.
