How to Activate a Verizon Motorola V60c

My cell phone died and i didn't want to buy a new one so my friend gave me his old verizon Motorola V60c. When i went to have it activated they wouldn't let me because it doesn't have the new GPS unit that they have on their phones now. Is there anyway that i can activate it on my own without even going through them.
