Resolved Question

How to access IE Favorites and Internet Options?

Feb 8, 2014 1:22AM PST

Hi. New to Windows 8 - it came with my new Lenovo laptop. Forgive me if I'm asking questions that are answered elsewhere - I looked, but did not find these answered.

I have not yet figured out how to do some of the things I'm used to doing, especially in IE, where I no longer see a top menu bar.

How do I add and access Favorites?

How do I get to Internet Options?

How do I email a link to someone?

(I tried right-clicking several places - no luck.)

If there is a link/doc that answers these and more, that would be great.

Also, I'm a big fan/user of keyboard shortcuts, so whip 'em on me if u got 'em Happy

Thx,

Answer
Get Classic Shell or Start8
Feb 8, 2014 1:28AM PST

Classic Shell is free, and it will make Windows 8 look and feel pretty much like older versions of Windows with the Start button and start menu you're familiar with. You can download it from www.classicshell.net. I think all that Metro mode stuff is a big waste of time. If you get Classic Shell (which is free) or Start8 (which costs $5), you don't have to worry about all the other foolishness MS came up in Windows 8.

Don't want to give up on Windows 8 just yet.

Thx for the info. I will look into Classic Shell, but... I first want to learn the Windows 8 way of doing these things, and then decide if I would rather revert back to the "classic" way.

I have read a Windows 8 "getting started" guide (don't remember exactly what it was called), but it didn't cover these IE-related tasks. Maybe someone can recommend a more extensive doc on making the transition from XP to Windows 8?

No need to go back. It's all there.

With just a mouse move and click I'm back in Metro.

If you go to the desktop IE it will be the same as Windows 7 and you will see the same option you used to see.
