How my Friday the 13th went............

It?s Friday the 13th???.

A day in the life of a retired gentleman???.

0600 - Wide awake. Have no idea of what caused me to wake or why.
Breathe in - Breath out
0605 - 0630 Shower, shave, etc.
One foot in front of the other
0630 - 0700 Build a pot of coffee. Check e-mail and late news on computer, and a couple of on-line forums. Find nothing of import, just the continuous crying and complaining by unhappy democrats, and like before, November is not going to be the end of it. If they only would realize it doesn?t take much effort or time to switch parties, and their lives would be so much easier.
Breathe in - Breathe out
0700 - 0730 Check out the studio and shop. Find that the resident cat has chosen to bat a glass something off onto the concrete floor. Shattered glass everywhere. Clean it up. Check the cat?s food and water bowls, and attend to the litter box.
One foot in front of the other
0730 - 0830 Trip to town, 15 miles. Stop for breakfast at regular place. Same faces. Nothing new. Proceed to store.
Breathe in - Breathe out
0830 - 0900 Provide Judi with security backup while she opens and sets up the store for the day. The bad guys are always on the lookout for a single person, preferably a woman, opening a business for the day. They usually have cash to seed the cash registers. A second storekeeper arrives. We never want just one person minding the store alone.
One foot in front of the other
0900 - 0930 Trip to Staples to pick up printer ink for a couple of printers, and other stuff.
Breathe in- Breathe out
0930 - 1030 Stop on way home to pick up replacement evaporation pads for the Swamp Cooler.
One foot in front of the other
1000 - 1030 Refill Hummingbird feeders. Set up ladder to get onto the roof.
Breathe in - Breathe out
1030 - 1130 Replace the pads and did a little preventive maintenance on the cooler. These are shredded aspen wood pads, aprx 26 in X 30 in, over and thru which trickles water, thru which air is drawn and forced via duct work throughout the house. A small ? hp electric motor and a small pump, almost like an acqarium pump, is all the energy draw to the cooler. Believing in maximum efficiency, I change the pads monthly, if or not they need it. This keeps the entire house at 75 degrees or less on days when the outside temps are triple digit. Certainly beats the ?price? of refrigerated air.
One foot in front of the other
1130 - 1230 Put ladder away, break out the hose. Clean front walkways from bird droppings. Hose and ?shammy? the car. Last evening we had a bit of a monsoon wind and dust just before a light sprinkle of rain. You get the idea of what the car looked like.
Breath in - Breathe out
1230 - 1300 Clean up the yard of the leaves and other debris left over from the wind of the previous evening.
One foot in front of the other
1300 - 1345 Chance (the dog) and I checked out the neighborhood. Everything in order. All other dogs accounted for.
Breathe in - Breathe out
1345 - 1400 Daily dog feeding time. Chance tells time perfectly, and if he thinks I have overlooked the time, will start reminding me.
One foot in front of the other.
1400 - 1600 Idle time. Fully retired. Turn on the TV and start surfing. ABC-NBC-CBS, all the same, aside from the continuous coverage of the storms in and around the west coast of Florida, either the Scott Peterson trial (other than the families involved, who should care) or the continuous crying, blaming, complaining from the democratic side of the isle. So go to CNN. A static camera shot of some distant building in Iraq, no activity visible, and someone yakking at 100 words per minute. I don?t know what ball game he was attending, but it wasn?t the same they were showing on TV. After about 4 minutes I realized he hadn?t said ?anything?. Switch to FOX. A static camera shot of buildings and billowing black smoke in the background. They have some retired military brass mouth in the studio, and he is opining that his experience tells him the smoke is from secondary explosions. Hello-oooo ! Typically explosions from explosives, ie bombs or munitions, create white or grey smoke that mushrooms and dissipates upward.
This was absolute black boiling smoke. We already knew from previous day reports that the insurgents had stacked tires in several places in that area, and had set them on fire. Don?t they brief these ?experts? ? Anyway, the TV being a complete waste to time, it?s back to the computer. Nothing of import on e-mail, and the only thing on the forums was the typical reference to a news story or the ranting and railing of the liberal side of the room. So just turn everything off and go outside.
Breathe in - Breathe out
1600 - Time to go back to town and close the store.

Nothing like retired life?????.

Breathe in - Breathe out
One foot in front of the other

Then you wake up and find that ...

In reply to: How my Friday the 13th went............

you haven't done any of it yet...

AIR the maximum number recorded for people waking up, thinking they've done things, then waking up again is 32 (but don't ask me to remember a link).

I reckon you plan to sit with your feet up all day in future - cos even if it ain't reality, you could at least have dreamt it up to 32 times... Happy

Re: Swamp coolers

In reply to: How my Friday the 13th went............

Forgot about those, Del. Used them when I lived in Utah. They use less electricity than a regular A/C; alas, one needs to be in an arid climate like you are to get any use out of them.

Here in the flatlands: I changed a pump and interior hose to my washer, replaced a cracked radiator hose on my car and Ghosted my hard drive. Other than that, not much...

My sister and her husband, and a neice and her
husband live in Port Charlotte.

I feel certain they are OK, but I am concerned.
