How much would you pay for a drone?

and the hazards that come with it.
You think you can rule the skies with one of these?

This wasn't an accident. Watch the talons come forward at the precise time to grab the device. This was a deliberate attack.

Defending its territory

This is something humans do instinctively as well. For this bird, the area is probably its nesting and hunting ground and many will defend it even to their own death. Amateur pilots of RC controlled devices need open space and this is also where certain larger birds of prey call home. A high perch is something they look for when seeking a proper habitat.

Single prop planes are easily taken down by hawks and eagles because they attack from above or behind but quad copters are a lot more dangerous. Even if a bird suffers no body damage, the loss of a few critical feathers means death due to starvation. As these drones become more common, I expect both the FAA and local wildlife protection organizations to get involved in making sure the skies are safe for all who depend on it.

I couldn't help but be amused to think someone might have taken their $1000 toy to where they thought it was safe to fly only to have it dumped within seconds by a master aviator.
