How many have 'blinking' issue with Samsung led tv

Jan 26, 2011 4:25AM PST

I am trying to get the number of people affected by this nagging blinking issue with the latest Samsung led tv's. If possible it would be useful to include as much details about the tv including the model number, firmware version, the input source which is causing the problem, frequency of the blinks etc.
My aim is to get the numbers together so that Samsung will take note, so far it doesn't look like they are treating this as a major issue, but we all know it is.
My TV: Samsung UE46C8000 ( 3d led )
Firmware version: T-VALDEUC-3005.1
Problems with: Sky hd box ( Thomson ) which has been reset by sky and has had a software update. Also had hdmi cable change.
Sony bdp s-370 bluray player again had a software update and has changed several hdmi cables to make sure it is not a connectivity issue.
WD passport 500gb external hard drive connected to usb port on the tv.

Frequency of blinks: Variable and random, sometimes the tv works just fine, but once it starts blinking which is just after putting it on, the blinks might happen anyway around 2 seconds to 20 seconds.
What i have tried so far:
Changing hdmi cables, disconnecting all equipment completely from the tv and trying one input at time, to rule out individual input as an issue.
Setting all auto settings to off, like auto protection, mpeg noise filter, digital noise filter, led motion plus, smart led, auto 3d.
Resetting the entire system to default settings.
Software update which gave the above version, previously it had 3003 in the end instead of 3005.
None of these actions seem to have had any benefit and the blink still remains.

I just purchased the Samsung UN40D6000S 40" LED TV from best buy. I logged in to netflix, while watching a movie the TV did 5 (too black) soft blinks. I am on my 30 day period so I can return it. Great TV but will this lead to a bigger issue.

My Samsung TV blinks
Jan 2, 2012 12:07PM PST

I bought a Samsung 46" Class LED 1080p 120Hz HDTV, Internet-Connected, 1.2" ultra-slim,
UN46D6003. It blinks when watching Neflix. I hooked up a Roku box to this TV and the blinking stopped.
I called Samsung and they spent 3 hours with me today blaming everyone else (internet provider and then Netflix).
I took the Samsung wireless adapter back to Best Buy and exchanged it. Stil having the same problem. Something is wrong with this TV.

A bit of prespective on the Netflix streaming issue
Feb 7, 2012 10:03AM PST

I have a UN55D6000 and I have the same problem when watching Netflix
USING SAMSUNG's built in Netflix App. I however have no issues when I
use my Sony Blu-Ray player to stream Netflix and then send the signal to
the TV over HDMI. So it appears to be a Netflix decoding issue and
from my experience the frequency of the issue varies depending on the
program you are watching.

I am an engineer and first want to say this thread seems mixed between two different issues "the Netflix streaming issue" and people who are having HDMI/HDCP compatibility issues. The later problem is probably rare and very dependent on the device and TV. I have connected three different HDMI devices to my TV with no problem but none of them are the devices mentioned in this thread.

I have a theory on "The Netlix Issue" that is mostly based on how my Sony player behaves. It appears
that my Sony player spends about a minute buffering the stream before
starting play and then will buffer up to 5 minutes if allowed to. Where
the Samsung TV spends little time (seconds) initially buffering.
Others have indicated that Netflix streaming devices handle buffer
underflows in one of two ways, either by pausing the stream with a
"loading/wait" message as my Sony player does or by changing the
streaming rate. Others also seem to claim that when this rate change occurs
you see the black screen for a short period on Samsung TV's and some other devices also.

I will also add based on real-world experience that the frequency of
this problem may vary or not even happen with certain internet
connections
but this does not make it the fault of the ISP as indeed instantaneous
internet speeds are not guaranteed and in my experience subject to great variability over a
10:1 range. This makes substantial stream buffering very important to
avoid pauses or the frequent data rate adjustments as I believe the
Samsung TV is doing.

I agree with others that this is probably
the fault of the Netflix app which uses a Micro$oft streaming
technology. I think though that Netflix and Samsung should work
together to fix this as it appears from other reports to potentially affect every
Samsung Smart TV. Ultimately hurting both Netflix and Samsung as most
users do not know who's problem it is. Although most people probably
just live with it.

I think the only
reliable fix until Netflix/Samsung get around to fixing this is to
purchase a non-Samsung smart Blu-Ray player (not sure if other brands
also have this issue, but Sony appears not to) and connect this to your TV.

Hopefully some one from Samsung will read this and other posts and get the right people working on this in conjunction with Netflix. Once this happens they should acknowledge and explain the issue and ensure users that a fix will be available in a reasonable time frame.

How to fix the blinking issue of my samsung plasma 3d tv
Jul 25, 2015 4:18AM PDT

Now I am facing this blinking problem in my samsung plasma 3d tv. The model number is PA43H4900AR. My observation about the problem is like this. This blinking problem occurs only when the tv is used as 2nd pc monitor via hdmi or connected to pc via wifi and running videos of pc, but the blinking is not occured when running movies from pen drive or dvd player or running as tv from cable or set top box.
Whenever I switch on/off any electrical equipments in my house, then tv screen goes "off" and again becomes "on" after 3 to 5 seconds. This becomes very very unpleasant when seeing 3d movies. Because every time it blinks, the 3d setting gone away. Again it is to set for 3d viewing. Normally the blinking occurs more frequently between 11am to 11pm and during stormy atmosphere.
So please tell me what is the solution of this as I cannot use my pc with this tv. Thank you.

Feb 7, 2012 12:52PM PST

UN55D6003 bought from best buy. Latest firmware, LED 1080p 240Hz trumotion. Only blInks when streaming Netflix. I have it connected via Samsung LinkStick powered by a 15mbps cable modem Internet, via a wrt54gl LinkStick wireless router. The issue is with the Netflix app for Samsung tv in this case I think. The app doesn't buffer out in advance, and blinks when switching to and fro SD-HD... Sigh.....

Try it wired.
Feb 7, 2012 2:16PM PST

I also switched back to 802.11g and the settings noted in the CNET Networking forum but the blink is CODED into this app by Netflix (also noted at same forum.)

blinking issue with Samsung LED tv's
Feb 12, 2012 4:43PM PST

I have just started having this blinking or motion-blur or stutter or whatever you call it the past few days on my Samsung 40 in. HD LED (UN40D5003) that is about 2 1/2 months old. I am connected to Directv. I have HDMI cable running from Directv HD DVR to a new Onkyo receiver and an HDMI cable from a Sony Blu-Ray to the Onkyo receiver. Then an HDMI cable from Onkyo to the TV. It worked fine for a couple of months until now. Sometimes it is the whole screen not really blinking but portions of the screen like fast moving basketball players or a golf ball or a golfers swing not moving smoothly but instead creating a kind of stuttering action or shaky movement. Don't know how to best describe it. It is very bad on fast sports action and particularly bad on the FOX regional sports channels. But is also bad on more static scenes like news and sports broadcasts. It tends to disappear on certain standard def. commercials. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. Is this just happening on LED TV's. John

Samsung blinking
Feb 12, 2012 5:06PM PST

I am not doing any viewing of Netflix through internet. So I don't know any thing about this screen going black and other things you folks are talking about. But I have not seen any blinking, stuttering, motion blur, etc. on any of the 3 or four Blu-Ray DVD's I've viewed. Doesn't this have to do with the fact that DVD's are only transmitting at 24 hz rather than 60 or 120? Isn't this a problem with TV having problems with keeping up with 60 or 120?? From Jrbshort again.

Beyond what has been noted above.
Feb 13, 2012 1:02AM PST

I see a blink whenever the refresh rate changes. My stock DVDs are 60. And NO HDMI connection is at 120. There's a lot to cover about that, how 120 factors in and more.

Given only the notes in your post I suggest you make a new post since what you have is not what was in this discussion.

My Samsung un5507000 lfx7a just starting blinking last Saturday. I run thru an cable box to an Onkyo 805 av receiver. The tv will blink off , the Smart tv icon appears, and it can do this once or a few times. Called Samsung and they set me up with service and They told me it was a processor problem that they have seen before.

Blinking/flashing issue with Samsung TV
Apr 21, 2012 3:46AM PDT

My Samsung LE46C580J1 has a blinking/flashing problem. It started with the TV picture in dynamic mode, then all the other modes (natural, movie and standard) had the same problem. It seems to start flashing/blinking after the TV has been on for a while. Sometimes the flashing stops on its own, but sometimes I have to press the picture mode button to get it to stop. I purchased the TV in August 2011 and it has been repaired twice. First they replaced the board. Three weeks later the problem occured again. Our TV was taken away for the second time and this time they replaced the panel. That was three weeks ago. Guess what? Today the picture is flashing again on dynamic mode. It's nothing to do with the Sky box or HDMI cable, because the problem occurs on the scart and av with the DVD player and Nintendo Wii. An electrical pal has told us he heard Samsung were having a problem with a faulty batch of chips, but I can't find any more info on this. Thankfully we have a protection plan, however it is all very frustrating, as the repairs can take up to 3 weeks and each time it conks out we have to wait in for the repair man to collect it and bring it back.

Has anyone else encountered a problem like this?

Afterabout an hour the flickering starts an it is very quick about one per second. I dont think we should be paying very good money for something to last les than 3yrs.

In fact I think it is against EU rules that say when you purchase a product yu have a right to expect to work for a period of time that is reasonable. So I think that this is unreasonable period to pay for. say £350 per year for an electrical product is VERY unreasonable.

Samsung Flickering
Feb 11, 2013 2:59AM PST

I have a 7000 series and just had the panal replaced 2 weeks ago due to a vertical pixel line 4 inches from the right side. A few days later when I turn on the TV, it flickers from White wash to color several times before it stays on color, like it needs to capture the signal. I wasnt sure if it was my DirecTV box. So a tech will look at it Wednesday.

Hi, I have the same problem. I have my T.V. in my room and notice it mostly while I'm bed trying to catch some sleep. This can prove to be somewhat irritating and annoying. While I do not have an ultimate solution for this problem I do have a temporary one. I've noticed that when the Samsung logo begins to flash, I retaliate by flicking the little analog button in the back into any direction (without actually pressing it to prevent it from turning on). This has always stopped that annoying blinking. Also I believe I once just pressed the down arrow in the controller and it also proved effective. This is all I can give you. If you find an actual solution, let me know please.

Got the same problem. Mine occurs on regular Dish Network Regular TV viewing. Mostly initially when turned on , then it subsides. Noticed it more when playing back DVR recordings. In some cases it triggers the dish box to reset and acquire again. Any new help on this. Don't want to beat a dead horse. Mine is only 4 mos old , I may see if Best Buy would refund or make an accommodation on another brand.

Mine does this too! We just bought the TV just under 2 months ago. It never did it before it did an automatic update. Now it does it all the time. The sound bar decides to not work all the time too. My boyfriend is pissed. I exchanged my Comcast DVR thinking that was the problem and I have brand new 4k HDMI wires. Mine does it mostly when watching regular cable or HD channels. Has anyone found a fix for this yet???

Same!
Aug 24, 2015 8:12AM PDT

My TV is a Samsung 3DTV and it sometimes blinks at the top of the screen (Black). What I find sometimes surprisingly helps is to smack the top of the TV. If this is only at the top, not the whole screen, you should do so. For some reason this actually fixes the TV for a few minutes.

Blinking Samsung UN40FH6030
Oct 7, 2015 10:43AM PDT

I Have a Samsung UN40FH6030 40 inch TV I use for Computer,TV and Xbox. The TV works good no Blinking but the Xbox and Computer will Go black along with no sound for around 5 seconds and come back. This happened right away but the TV was from Tiger Direct and they said there's only 3 months of warranty if it's from Tiger Direct not one year as they are not a Samsung dealer and the TV is considered a referb.
I noticed that when the refrigerator in my room turns on or the power switch to the light is activated it also does the Blinking. I wonder if the capacitors in the power circuit of the TV aren't isolating the 120volt wall power good enough.
I heard from the TV repairman that was about to come over but cancelled when they found that the TV was from Tiger Direct had said that they change the TV's mother board. Most likely the capacitors are on that board. Others have stated that the LED screen is bad but if that were the case it would have the problem when watching the TV also.
I wonder if plugging the TV and the Computer, Xbox into a Backup Power supply would fix the problem. The backup battery is like a big capacitor. I might try that I could always take back the Backup power supply if it doesn't work.

Look up.
Oct 7, 2015 11:43AM PDT

I see folk have correctly surmised there are 2 blink problems. The Netflx one is solely up to Netflix to solve.

The second one has so far been next to horrible since it's a problem of how well HDMI systems play together. If there is a HDMI issue, that's it. Since makers can't seem to fix it you are stuck with returning products that blink on HDMI handshake when changing cables and sources don't clear it up.

Samsung Smart TV blinking problem

We have a Samsung UN32H5203 LED Smart TV just under 1yr.old in our master BR. It replaces a 32 Samsung LED non Smart TV which we had for 2 yrs w/o any issues but moved it to a guest BR as a 15 yr old TV died in that room. For 4 mos. now this smart TV keeps blinking and Samsung tech. support insists on blaming the power co.cable co. and the wiring from the HDMI to home coaxial. I mentioned that I see on the Internet other people are having the same issues and the tech states that you can't believe this Internet info. I did a additional 1 yr warr. thru the seller and plan to contact them for help. After 6 samsung products in my home there will not be a 7th

My TV also blinks occasionally
Dec 1, 2015 7:15AM PST

My Samsung UN60J6300 started doing this recently. It is 3-4 weeks old and didn't do it when I first hooked up my computer. Upon initial setup I changed the device type and name of that HDMI input to "PC" as the manual instructs.

Mine doesn't blink often and when it does it blacks out for no more than 1 second. More like 1/2 a second. I haven't tried switching cables because it didn't happen initially. Only recently have I noticed it while streaming TV or using my computer. At first I thought it was a bad scene transition but it also happens while using the computer for browsing the internet.

I have never seen this issue when mirroring my phone screen, playing a BluRay movie, or just watching TV. Could it have something to do with one specific HDMI input port or the device type/name being changed? It happens rarely so I wouldn't describe it as an annoying issue but if it gets worse I'll return the TV to Sam's Club before the 90 day return period ends!
