How long should the bdp-1500 firmware update take

Dec 1, 2008 10:33PM PST

Hello,

I recently purchased a bdp-1500. I went to update the firmware yesterday and it sat for 2+ hours with "Net up" (i think that is what it said) on the lcd. My power ended up going out, but the thing still works, just reverted to factory defaults. Is this length of time normal? The book said 4-5 minutes. If my unit is defective I would like to know so that I can return it for a working unit.

Thanks

Your update should take about 40 minutes, assuming you have a fast Internet connection.

I started timing it from the time it started step 4... I ran the update with the disc and step 4 took 3 minutes. Then it wanted to do a net update and that took about 2 in step 4, so it is all updated, but why did it sit so long the first time? Did it freeze? what should I do if it does it again?

Syco54645,

Welcome to the forum.

The player may have hung due to maybe a network connection issue that occurred during the upgrade. The important thing is that you were able to get it updated successfully.

They generally shouldn't take more than 10 minutes from start to finish.

If you'd like, in the future, you can also update the firmware on the BD-P units with a CD if you have a CD burner on your computer.

Keep me posted if you have any other questions.

the firmware could be corrupt, it should only take a couple minutes to do the upgrade, go into the factory mode ( mute-182-power on and it will bring up the factory menu, find the reset and do it, this will put it back to the original factory settings

lukster5,

That service code is for qualified Samsung service technicians only. I don't suggest that anyone use the mute code EVER, as you could screw up the television inadvertently.

As well, doing a factory reset on the television does nothing for the firmware for the Blu-Ray player.
