How long does it take for Vista to defrag?

by doomman328 / March 1, 2009 4:39 AM PST

WIndows Vista with 600 GB HDD and almost 150 GB used. How long should it take? I never defragged since I got this PC (Last September) and I tried defragging from the Disk Defragmenter utility, Sometimes leaving it for 5 hours, And still nothing. I tried Defragging 5 times and leaving it on for several hours at a time, But then it would be too late and I would just get real tired and cancel it. How long does this take? Any other way I cna do it WITHOUT having to download a Spyware utility and infect my PC even more?

Given the nature of the process I set to the automatic and use my PC never to worry about this again.

vista's defrag is intended to be run as background process

that's why it never gives you any feedback on its status. just leave it scheduled and don't worry about.
