Question

How long do phones last ?

My phone which gave great service for 3 years suddenly gets very hot and the screen turns on and off. It is the LG G3 phone with a great display and large screen. Nobody wants to repair it and says the motherboard must be replaced. I have over 5,000 stored photos and was told that if repaired, all data would be deleted. Is it worth repairing? How long does the average cellphone last?

Clarification Request
where are the photos?

Are they on an SD card in the phone? If so, can pull that SD card and access the files directly if you also have a media reader on your computer.

From my experience.....

....2 years of life is typical, but I have had and heard of phones lasting several years beyond that.

Answer
About 2 years.

As to the photos issue that's a real problem as many don't get it that we only lose what we don't backup and one drop and these would be all gone if they only were on the phone.

PCs are pretty similar. Still not reliable enough to store what we can't lose there.

The fix is backups on different things and places.

Hopefully Longer than Apple products

Good luck with the IPhone 6 - I just hope they don't release an update slowing the phone down... Grin

How long do phones last

Hi friends,.... According to the Consumer Electronics Association, average smartphone life expectancy now reaches 4.7 years. This means if you buy a year-old phone, you could expect to use it for a few more before performance noticeably suffers.

Average

Depends on the user there are many things to consider, but average is 4 years, I had LG for that long and its still in use.

5 years for a smartphone

Hi speedbird2017! Why don’t you back this device up ASAP and get it repaired?! If you do not want to lose all your content, get it done soon!! When it comes to the lifespan of a phone, I suppose that it’s about five years for a smartphone. They do tend to heat up depending on apps you are using, charging habits, etc.

Answer
2-3 years

In general people keep their smartphones for 2-3 years, at least I do, before selling it and upgrading, and there are grounds to do this. Then they become slower and slower or the manufacturer slows it down, whatever. But can it be more than 2-3 years.. of course if your requirements are not high. It also depends on how well you take care of it… and whether you have enough patience Grin

Answer
3-4 years

Usually phones lasts for 3-4 years. It means the more expensive you bought, the more money went down the drain. That's the number one reason I don't buy original phones but rather prefer buying refurbished phones. I have recently bought a refurbished iPhone 7 plus and believe me I did not regret it. It has same functions but on a cheaper price.

Well my Galaxy Note 3 is still working well and i got that in 2014, i also have a Sony Ericson cyber shot that i got in 2005 and that will still power up when needed, its just down to how you use it and look after it and New Batteries are available when they eventually run low.

Answer
It all depends

Depends on how good you take care of your phone; for example you should use a good quality case ****

However if the screen is the only thing that seems to ve failing, try connecting the phone to a laptop through a USB cable.
