How long can I leave it on?

Dec 31, 2004 2:53PM PST

I usually just put on my PC to play a game or email and switch it off after an hour or so. I have recently got a broadband connection as well as a long list of pending downloads on my download manager running into Gigabytes. So I am planning to leave it on and let the PC download throughout the day with the monitor on standby or switched off.
Is it safe for the PC? How long can I leave it on continuously without causing significant damage?

My 2 yr old PC:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with stock fan and sink.
MSI KT3 Ultra 2 Motherboard.
Kobian Large ATX Cabinet and 350W(?) power supply and I have installed 2 additional fans in the cab.
Asus GeForce 4 Ti4200 128 RAM
384 MB DDR RAM
40 GB Seagate HDD
Samsung 17" monitor Syncmaster 753S

I run PC Alert 4 v 4.0.7.2 and it typically shows
CPU temp at 52 deg. C and System temp at 42 deg. C and CPU fan at approx 5200 rpm

Thanks a lot!
Cheers!
Happy New Year!

I was thinking more along the lines of actual hardware damage due to sustained high temps etc.
Anyway I am running Win XP Home SP2 with XP Firewall and Norton AV running at all times

ambient room temp

As long as the ambient temperature of the room is around 70F you should be all set. I wouldnt worry about it at all.
