Question

How get rid of message,"Found New Hardware - Windows needs t

Mar 16, 2015 12:23PM PDT

Have tried seemingly everything to get rid of install wizard
message, "Found New Hardware - Windows needs to
install driver software for Universal Serial Bus (USB)
Controller". My USB attached printer is working as it
should and I've been into the Device Manager and tried
a number of things with no success. Desperate for help,
please. Thanks!

Tell more. Usually you see this after folk install Windows 7 on a PC that came with 8.

Have you looked in Device Manager?
Mar 16, 2015 12:37PM PDT

If you haven't looked in Device Manager, that's the first place I'd look. There you should see an entry flagged with either ! or ? to identify what the culprit is. Then you could take the informed appropriate action. You might just need to download a driver from your manufacturer's web site or maybe you could just disable whatever it is since you apparently don't need it.

Good luck.

Which Windows?
Mar 20, 2015 12:59PM PDT

This used to be a problem on older windows machines without post release service packs.
Try downloading the latest printer driver and MB chipset drivers for your version windows.
Don't forget to delete your printer from your printers in control panel first.

Really appreciate this! I'm at "wit's end"....need, if you will, guide me along. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron
1525. Printer is Canon MX390 series (multifunction). Attached to laptop by USB, printer works fine.
At present, printer is unplugged from laptop. In control panel I've deleted everything I can see and think
of related to the printer. The Printer folder is empty. The Device Manager folder shows under "Universal
Bus Controllers" seven (7) listings of "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" and seven (7) listings of
"Unknown device". How explain that? Everytime I reboot I get the message, "Found New Hardware -
Windows needs to install driver software for Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller". When I follow the
instructions to locate and install driver software I'm told to insert the disc that came with the device. I'm
away from home and don't have access to the disc for either my laptop or printer. An unsolvable dilemma?
Respond, if you will, please...and, again, thanks!
