You have to experiment. I get a 11Mbps connection at one interior wall and 20 feet of air. But I have no interferring signals or other problems. If I place the WAP in the window I can get down the street about 200 feet at 1 Mbps.

Hi. I'm thinking of installing an ad-hoc wireless 802.11b for my home. It will connect 2 computers, a desktop and a notebook. I will install a PCI card on the desktop computer, while my notebook has already a built in MiniPCI wireless 802.11a/b/g card.
If I were to use ad-hoc mode, typically how far can these 2 computers be, if there are no wall between? I don't need 11 Mbps, 1 Mbps is sufficient for me. How about if there is 1 wall, can the signals penetrate the wall to reach the next? Or is there no hard answer for this, i.e. I have to experiment it myself?
Thanks a lot.
