Aug 16, 2005 12:38AM PDT

Just an enquiry really to see if anyone can explain in idiots terms how exactly files are recontructed and repaired by PAR programs; upto now I can only assume it's real magic!!!

Thanks in advance!

Golf.
Aug 16, 2005 1:26AM PDT

''(golf) the standard number of strokes set for each hole on a golf course, or for the entire course; ''a par-5 hole''; ''par for this course is 72''
- equality: a state of being essentially equal or equivalent; equally balanced; ''on a par with the best''
- make a score (on a hole) equal to par ''

PAR is noted at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAR

Or you might be writing of PARCHIVE?

Read this link for more.

Hope this helps.

thanks Mr Proffitt...

hmm...once again your puny attempts at sarcasm and humour fall flat on their faces, maybe you would like to stick to being a clown at kids parties - they may understand your wit.

If I had wanted info on golf-related 'par', I wouldn't have posted on CNET because as far as i'm aware they deal in technology & computer-related news.

*Note to other mods: as Monsieur Proffitt cannot answer my question, is anyone else available to field it?

Many thanks

I'll help if you will.

Your post was small on details so I offered the golf and PARCHIVE definitions.

Let me offer that if you are nasty to responders then you will likely get odd or no responses.

-> How about a better post with more about the PAR you wish to converse about?

Didn't Bob already do so?

Unless I'm mistaken, Bob provided the link to a Wikipedia article about Parchive which explains how files/programs are repaired. Perhaps if you asked a more direct question more information could be provided. In the mean time, feel free to click here for more informaton about Parchive and here for PAR in general. Unfortunately none of these sources explain PAR/Parchive/Parity Archive in ''idiots terms.''

Hope this helps,
John

I didn't think it fell flat

While sometimes Bob's humor is a little dry, and even at times sarcastic, he really does get to the point pretty quick.

If you just took a little more time to read his entire message, you would have seen that he did answer your oddly phrased, and lacking of detail, request for information.

You really did not think that your saying of ''I can only assume it's real magic!!!'' was going to be interpreted as your actual feelings, did you?

If you want real magic, perhaps you ought to attend those kid's parties that you want to ban others to? If you want to understand real magic, you ought to try and stick it out here as many months as Bob has, answering some of the lamest questions, and still keep your sanity. Now that's magic.
