The receiver assumes that if your using HDMI it will contain digital audio so there will NOT be any analog or digital audio input you can use. Sorry!!
My best advice is to get DVD player with an HDMI output cost $100~150. John
I'm using my laptop as a DVD player connected to my Pioneer VSX-84TXSi receiver. The $1500 receiver has no DVI input for some reason, but it does have an ipod connection, which I find ridiculous.
Anyway, I bought an HDMI to DVI adapter cable and connected my laptop to my receiver with this method. However, because the HDMI cable is connected to the DVI cable on my laptop, there is no sound coming into the HDMI input on the receiver.
What I want is for the video source to be the HDMI cable and the audio source to be the red and white composite cables from my laptop.
I connected the composite cables into the red and white inputs on the DVD in, and the DVI to HDMI into the HDMI 2 input.
If I have it like that I can get video if I select HDMI 2, and audio if I select DVD, but I can't get both.
When I go to setup and then DVD, there is an option to turn on HDMI input, but when I do that I can get video, but the audio shuts off immediately.
How can I get only video from the HDMI, but the audio from the composite cables?
