How do you create a login and user password

Can anyone tell me how to create a login and user password to be used to lock down a mac running OS 1.9. I have some kids that I'm trying to restrict there access to this computer? Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, this is almost impossible without the aid of third party software or something, whose name I forget right now, from Apple. OK, just looked it up. It was called At_Ease and it allowed you to create accounts for users which limited them to whatever you allowed them to use, and nothing else.
It might still be available, for sale, but I don't see it on the download site as a free download.

Is this for a Mac OS and do you mean OS 9.1
You can up grade to an OS 9.2.2 in the downloads site which means going one step at a time.
Check your control panel for Multiple Users and you can handle this query using this option.
