Comcast Cable ISP but it's overpriced
Apr 23, 2006 5:56AM PDT

I got sucked into a reasonably priced package deal with basic cable TV and internet. Then they changed the cable lineup so I had to buy the premium cable service in order to get the news channels I wanted. It's no longer a good deal and I'm considering switching to Satellite TV and a DSL line. That will be much better TV but slower internet, but at a considerably lower price.

INTERNET CONNECTION & ISP SERVER
Apr 23, 2006 9:09AM PDT

Dear People:
I'm connected to the internet by a dail - up connection. The ISP SERVER is peoplepc.com . Do I like it? The answer today is NO, it's to slow at times when traffic is high and I have no tech. support, unless I want to pay around $2.75/min. That is crazy, right. So I work around that, when I have a tech. problem. Also, overall the service is to slow and when I'm on the internet noone can call me. That is a big negative! I hope this helps your survey and forum. Please let me know if anyone has a way to get more speed without changing to say DSL sevice. BYE!

I too have dial-up service from Netzero. I have hi-speed 3G. It works good, but can be slow if there is alot of traffic. What else is new. To get alittle more speed you may want to uncheck the compression box on your internet connection. Go to your network connections, right click your connection People pc,click your modem, and uncheck the compression, click ok, etc. See if you get a faster connection by doing this. I e-mailed Netzero with this very problem and this is what they told me to do. It didn't cost me anything either.
Hope this helps.

Verizon
Apr 23, 2006 11:46PM PDT

So,you like Verizon huh?.
My lady friend over at Cape Cod left Juno and signed up for Verizon DSL and she HATES it.Emails seldom get to her, can't get on Internet at all during the day, only early morning or late at night.Yet she is paying for high speed 24/7.Was attempting to ditch it over the weekend and they told her if she quit now, she'd have to pay the full years regardless. Some company that is,sheesh.
Took me over 4 years but I finally settled on Msn as my ISP,using Msn Explorer Premium Service, great browser and built in email client.

Happy? Do I Have a Choice? No.
Apr 23, 2006 10:02PM PDT

Comcast is my supplier. The one thing I can count on is rate increases. While phone companies continue to compete for my service, when it comes to cable you can only get service from the guys who currently own the lines. And each time the company is sold, the rates are raised to pay the cost. Then there are the rate increases each time they re-shuffle the packages. Then there are the rate increases... You get the picture.

Americans Don't Care If We Get Screwed

It's our country. Our economy. We could make these guys play fair if we wanted to.

But that would mean electing real people like the folks on this forum and not suit and tie types that work for telco's.

We complain but do nothing.

Cable modem...can't go back
Apr 25, 2006 9:34AM PDT

I'm currently using RoadRunner from Time-Warner. I've used cable modems for the last 5 years and couldn't go back to dial-up. It is very expensive and it would be nice to see some competition.

How I connect to the internet from home

Dial up modem using earthlink.net. I am not happy with it but I can't get cable, etc. I live in a fairly remote area so this is all I can do other than satellite. We travel a lot so we can't afford to invest in satellite and not be home more that two weeks at a time. I think earthlink would be fine if I could get a better connection.

Connecting to the Internet
Apr 24, 2006 11:25AM PDT

I have recently upgraded from dial-up to DSL a month ago. I really didn't want to, but my dial up connection with the same company kept terminating the connection almost 3 to 4 times daily. Sometimes I couldn't reconnect. So at the urging of my brother who already had Bellsouth Fast Access, I went for it.

Honestly, I think dial-up services are being tampered with in order to force folks to high speed. I mean look at AOL pricing their dial-up at the same price of their high speed service. You're better off upgrading to the high speed service because it is the same price.

I would have preferred to have kept my dial-up because at $4.95(discounted because I have Area Calling Plus), I couldn't beat the price. With so many people moving to high-speed internet, the price should be no more than $24.95 instead of different tiers of pricing.

at&t Yahoo! DSL
Apr 24, 2006 12:53PM PDT

It's easy to set up, just follow the Flash-powered interactive setup prompts, and you're through. I set it up in about 10 minutes. The speeds are fairly high at 1.5 Mpbs downstream and 128 Kbps upstream. The rate, though is the clincher. It is $12.99/mo for a year. Then, after that year, should you want to continue using it is $29.99. The contract length is 1 year. I live in San Antonio, Texas, where at&t is located.

Cable modem

I connect using Cable modem. I'm in Australia and use Optus Cable Internet which I'm quite happy with. The price is reasonable and they seem to keep updating what you get for your money to stay competitive.

FIOS
May 13, 2006 3:58AM PDT

I have had fios (fiber optic) internet from verizon for about 1 month. WOW it is lightning fast, 15mb down / 2mb up. I actually had to replace my wife's wireless card (11mb) to see any speed increase. On speakeasy.net's speed test it says between 12-15mb down and 1.5 to 2 mb down. Some sites aer still slow, but downloading an itunes song or video is almost instant!!! I love my fios.

How I connect
Jun 2, 2006 9:43AM PDT

I connect with Cox Cable through an SMC Router at home. Six computers, some hard wired and some WiFi. I have all my grandkids PS2 and 360 boxes listed on the SMC Mac filter. Add 6 TV's all on Digital Cable and my Bandwidth never shows a glitch.(Yes I know the TV has no effect on the Data Bandwidth), but it does all come through that little cable) Service is great and cable rarely goes out, average a couple times a year.

COMCAST HAD TO GO
Feb 14, 2008 2:35PM PST

I had used Comcast back to when it was Roadrunner then AT&T and eventually Comcast. Last november they rebuilt their home page. I had all kinds of problems

When it came up there were several blank spots where pictures obviously should be, and several links were non functional. I contacted one of their live chat support technicians. He explained to me that the problem was not their end. He told me that I must have a firewall or Anti-Virus program installed He went on to say that the problem was only experienced by people who had that kind of programs, and I should uninstall them.

I ended the chat session and ordered DSL
