how do i use 1 laptop to perform system scans on another one

both machines running vista. problem system is gateway m73 series that hangs up during windows boot.. want to know condition of h.d. before going much farther... just used o.e.m. restore c/d's to bring back to "factory"(ha ha ) status and still no restart. is there a power on key combo i am forgetting here to force command prompt? safe mode options don't work.

can anyone help here?

Basically you have to take the drive out, put it into an enclosure, and then connect it to another system. You cannot typically do it while still in the other system. Or you could just get some kind of hardware diagnostic program that can boot off a flash drive or DVD, use that instead.

But you didn't tell what you needed help with. Some folk are not ready to do the usual hard drive removal or to put it into some case and that's OK. PC repairs are not for everyone so have folk show you how or take it to the shop counter.
