Question

How do I uninstall my tv from a recessed area - help!

May 12, 2017 12:09PM PDT

I can't figure out how to remove my tv from the recessed area above my fireplace - I will attach a picture for all to see. I have tried lifting up and out and the tv is clearly locked on somehow but I can't fathom how I can access it to figure out how to unlock. I'd be grateful for any assistance!

It doesn't swing out
May 12, 2017 12:38PM PDT

It doesn't swing out and cnet won't let me post a picture but it's in a recessed area and I can only get my fingers around the edges to lift up, which isn't working, no conceivable way to unscrew anything or unlock anything

After you unplug and on some pull a release.

The image didn't help much.

Check out the link I gave where they shared another view. This one looks like the TWO PERSON TYPE where you lift up and off but it is not a one person job. I already noted the other type with a release mechanism.

The mount
May 12, 2017 4:32PM PDT

The mount is a sanus vmpl50a - uses the latches on the vertical mounts. What I don't get is how the heck anyone can access them.

This is something you address when installing.

I've used the old put a string on them method, plastic ties and small ropes. There is no exact fix for this if the installer didn't play ahead and you can't get your hand in there to unlatch it.

In other words, use your imagination. Last time I used a coat hanger and pliers to make a hook to grab the release.

Professional onstallation
May 12, 2017 6:19PM PDT

Paid quite a bit to have it installed professionally a few years back, called them today and they gave no advice but of course offered to let me pay them to come out to uninstall it - seems a bit like a setup to me!

Sorry for the spelling error, I meant plan ahead. That out of the way I think in this case your best bet is pliers and an old wire hanger to craft a tool to get in there and pull on the release.

Worst case is you have to buy another mount to see how it releases then make the tool to get in there to release it.
