Question

How do I transfer my e-mail address book to a new computer

Oct 10, 2011 1:46PM PDT

I have a large number of addresses in my book and would like to transfer them to a new computer without having to retype all of them. What is the best way to do that. Any help will be appreciated.

That fully depends on what e-mail program you have on your old computer and what e-mail program you have on your new computer.

Two examples:
1. I moved the address book from Outlook Express to Thunderbird by export and import of a csv-file.
2. I moved the address book from Outlook Express to Outlook 2010 by importing it in a temporary account on a third computer to Outlook 2003 (I knew that would work, I didn't try if Outlook 2010 supports import from Outlook Express in Windows 7 directly).

I moved the address book from OS X to a new Mac by using the Migration Assistant.
