Question

How do I transfer a video on a dvd.

Apr 29, 2014 7:26AM PDT

Hello. I am a newbie on this subject. I recorded a video on my digital camera and want to create a dvd. I have tried the copy, burn and rip in Media player. It says it down loaded to 100% put when I try to play both on computer and t.v. It is blank. Do I need to get some type of software, or am I missing a step? When I downloaded the card to computer, it plays fine. I have DVD+ R for my discs.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

have a little DVD 101.

A regular DVD can store up to 4.7GB of digital information. Pictures, movies, music, applications or documents can all be put on to a DVD.
This does not make that piece of plastic into a DVD that plays on standalone DVD player like the ones you play your commercial movies on.
It just makes it a disc with digital information on it, a CD on steroids, which is exactly what you produced.

To turn your digital movie into a format that can be read by the average DVD player, you need a piece of software like the one that gwrach923 point you to.

I use Freemake Video Converter. Free, and easy to use. I have been using it for more than a year. Just Google Freemake.

Yes, that's the idea. But if the video comes from your own camcorder and you want it to play in a regular DVD-player, it must be converted to the right format. And that's only "simply" if you know how and use the right programs.

I use two methods.

1. If it's a standard DVD size 4.7 GB, or less I use ConvertXToDVD. It gives me lots of control, as far as making chapters, and other features. Goggle it, it's pricey, but worth it.
2. If it's a non-standard DVD size 4.8 GB, or more, I use Freemake Video Converter. It's a free program (unless you want to spend the extra money on all the bells & whistles), and you can fit 20 GB of recording onto one standard DVD. 40 GB on a Dual Layer DVD. Again Google them to get all the info.

The nice thing about Freemake Video Converter, is you can download it from CNET's download page, and if you sign in, you will be notified every time there is an upgrade to it, and there have been a few.

So fire up your Google to see what you want. There are lots of other programs out there, you just have to pick the one you want to spend your hard earned money on, that is if you want to spend any money.
