You can also download FastStone Capture software which allows you to select areas of the screen to save, and also lets you send that direct to your printer or save the file to a folder.
Print Screen Key for the whole screen
OR
Alt + Print Screen for a picture of the Active Open window
OR
Windows Key + Print Screen in Windows 8 will save directly to a File called Screenshots

In Vista, 7 & 8, you can use the Snipping Tool. A very hand piece of software that allows you to choose exactly what you capture. Not available in XP or any of the Home or Basic versions of Vista, 7 or 8

A really GREAT method (and it's free) is to download the Add-on 'FireShot' into either Firefox or Chrome. This is the simplest and most efficient (5-star) screen printing facility I have ever used. Check it out guys.....
Just press PrtSc and than open your paint and press Ctrl+V or Right click -> Paste.
or if you want to take screenshot of only some area of your Windows than download PrntScr
Press CTRL + ALT + PRT SCRN keys simultaneously (yes, that's 3 keys). Or, on my Samsung Series 7, it's CTRL + FN + PRT SCRN. The shortcut for pasting this into a Word document is to press CTRL + V simultaneously. You can then edit the image as a picture (Picture Tools).
