How do I switch from one printer to another

by hikergirl / February 9, 2012 8:03 AM PST

I have a black ink printer and a color printer. I use the black ink printer almost exclusively. In order to print something in color, how do I switch from one printer to another? Of course, I will need to switch back when finished with color printing. Thanks.

How I do that?
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / February 9, 2012 8:11 AM PST

In word I select the printer after I select File, Print. Couldn't be simpler.

Was there more to this?

To echo R Proffitt and to add something

Since you use the B/W printer almost exclusively, you set it to be your default. You didn't mention your OS so shall we presume it's Windows XP and up? You'll need to go to Start and find the option to view your printers. You will do a right click on the one you want as the default and make sure that one is selected. It should have a check mark on it. Now, when you go to print, the print job should automatically go there. Should you desire color, you should see the default printer showing by name but a pointer to the right of the box which opens a list of other available printer. You select your alternate choice from there. This does (should) not affect the default printer settings.

When I followed your instruction, it seems that the other printer has disappeared into cyberspace. I will reinstall the other printer, then return to your instructions. Thanks. I'll post back.

I have no idea why the color printer's software was uninstalled but...
It's up and running again.
To R. Proffitt - no, there was nothing more. The color printer just wasn't available to choose. Now it is. All is well with the world, and I'm happy.
Thanks, everyone.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
