How do I stop the login request from popping up at startup?

Jun 4, 2005 6:32AM PDT

When I turn on my PC (WinXP Pro), it asks for my login and password. I am the only user on this home PC, so I would prefer not to have to do that. How do I get the system to stop requesting a login and password?

Thanks in advance!
Rick

Control panel, click on user accounts. Put a check in the Use the Welcome screen.

Also click to read Logon options.

Follow up question...

Ray,

Thanks for your input. I've made those changes, so now the PC has me click on my user account without having to type my screen name and password. I guess my next question is how do I make it so I do not have to click on the user account if there is only 1 user account...?

I would like to be able to turn on the PC and have it come up to my desktop without any input from me. No sign-in screen... No select the 1 user account... Is that possible? Maybe it isn't and you've got me the closest I'm going to get...

Thanks again,
Rick

What I had already told you is the way
Jun 5, 2005 12:47AM PDT

that I got mine to do exactly what you want.

Mine had always done it the way you want and then one day came up with the logon screen. Did what I posted to you and got back to booting up with nothing to click.

Maybe it has to do with the intial install. Did you create a user account, in addition to the default administrator account?? MS doesn't make it clear that one should.

I don't understand all of the intricasies, but before asking others to help, boot up in safe mode and see if you have another Administrator account. The "hidden" Administrator account if it exists will only show in safe mode.

Just something to find out before you ask the question again, because I really don't know why yours is not working just like mine.

I also have a check in the fast user switching box, however, I have no idea whether that affects it. I have no other user, than the hidden administrator and guest showing in safe mode.
