How do I share internet connection FROM my Laptop to my PC?

We recently bought a laptop with this EV-DO wi-fi connection that's really fast. Our PC had 56k and we want to share the internet connection from the laptop to the PC. We've tried a regular ethernet (not a crossover) and the computer sees the other computer, but we cant get on the internet. I've heard lots of ppl say try an ethernet crossover cable. Would that work?
