How do I share documents on a network from an XP Pro machine

I have XP Pro on the main computer in my three computer network. The other two are Win 98. When all three were Win 98, I could transfer files between all three computer. Now, I an denied access to document files on the XP computer from the Win 98 machines. How can I correct this?

Disable XP's firewall

Re:Re:How do I share documents on a network from an XP Pro machine

I have tried to disable the firewall.
Windows instructions from Help and support read as follows:
To enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall
Open Network Connections
Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want to protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.

There is no selection "Network Tasks" when I click on my LAN connection

Where do I find this?

Forget about XP's help system. It's about as useful as a Curious George book is for learning calculus.

When you get to the network connections window, right click the connection icon for your LAN. Select Properties, and under the Advanced tab there will be a check box for the firewall.

I have opened network connections, right clicked on Local Area Connections, clicked on Properties. There is no ADVANCED tab in LOCAL AREA NETWORK CONNECTIONS PROPERTIES.

Sorry to be so difficult. It isn't there.

You neglected to share any "error message" and whether you set up accounts for these other users on the other machines to access the XP machine. The concepts of USERS, Permissions and more are deeper in NT/2000/XP and 2003.

Since it's all over at http://www.wown.com http://www.practicallynetworked.com and other sites, the only added item is to repeat that you don't want the firewall on your first forays on your LAN setup until you get it to work.
