How do i set up a TCP/IP network at home

May 27, 2018 9:05AM PDT

Hello, ive searched this online multiple times but I get lost each time. I am computer savvy but not networking savvy if that makes sense. So I have (1) Desktop computer and (1) laptop a home. the desktop is wired via ethernet and my laptop is on wifi. I have xfinity home internet 50mbps with an average router. I need to network my computers to do Distributed Rendering in 3DS max if anyone is familiar. So i know that I must setup TCP/IP connection but i need help. Can I just plug in an ehternet from desktop to laptop? Thanks in advance

If these PCs can use the Internet

Then you have successfully set up an IP network. TCP is just a protocol over IP so you are done.

Now setting up the rendering is a whole 'nother ball game. For that you get to the forums that deal with that.
