Question

How do I set Canon software as default?

Mar 4, 2015 3:55AM PST

Canon PS SX130is
Just purchased and had hooked up, an HP Pentium Slimline 400-434 CPU.
I installed the Canon software on the HDD, but the OS (Windows 8.1) defaults to its own program.
Is there any way for me to set Canon's software to be my default?
I am unable to get my images off the camera - neither to copy or delete when finished transferring from camera to CPU. This may be a problem that will disappear when I can get the Canon software to be primary.

Answer
use windows explorer

go to windows explorer, navigate to the folder that holds your pictures from the camera, right click it any photo, open as, then select always open with (or similar wording)

you should be able to see your camera in windows explorer, open it, and navigate to your pictures folder, then you should be able to delete from there. you can also delete the pictures from the camera itself. look in the manual.

I'm lucky to get the thing up & running.
What is windows explorer?
Where do I find it?
There is no folder that holds the pictures from the camera.
The Canon software is not default; therefore, the camera recognizes nothing.

Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer.

Open the folder containing the canon file type you want to change.

Right-click the file, point to Open with, and then click Choose default program.

Click the program that you want to use to open this type of file.

Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.

Apparently, I must have done something that changed how everything is read. I have all the camera's software loaded, with 4 different programs. Using it is confusing, but I'm doing it.
Thank you, Gibson Harrison, for trying to help.
