How do I run a program on my notebook on another computer?

Jun 23, 2007 7:23PM PDT

I have a HP Pressario DV9299, recently bought, and am very pleased with it. I have System Mechanic 6 installed and want to run this program from my laptop on my desktop. The obvious solution is to install the software on the destop. But I want to run the SM6 on friends computers also. Is there a solution via ethernet cable etc for doing this?

This clearly is a program designed for a stand-alone PC, but there's a chance it runs from a network drive also, and then you're done. some programs do. Most don't, because they store license information in the registry on the PC where they are installed. Just try it.

Better read the licence if this allowed if both PC's are your own. It's highly unlikely the license covers running it this way on a computer owned by somebody else. Then they would have to buy their own copy for $50 or 60.

Hope this helps.

You don't

Not only does Windows not have the ability to do this without some really expensive software (Linux and other Unix operating systems have been doing it since before there was a Windows), but it almost always violates the license agreement of the software.

So you have a technical problem and a legal problem to overcome. Simplest solution here, is for your friend to buy a copy of the software.

Thought that might be the case. Thanks.
