Question

How do I reset the Indexing Options?

Mar 8, 2015 7:15AM PDT

My indexing options got screwed up and I want to reset them. I have no backups. Does anyone know how to set them back to their defaults? Also what types of files should I index in addition to the default files?

Indexing

We all run our machines different.
This is a feature of w7 that I found of no value so I just turned it off.
Less disk activity.

Perhaps I'm the odd user but I'm thinking most folks don't need this.

Tried This Yet to "Rebuild"?

Open Indexing Options by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type indexing options, and then click Indexing Options. (Or simply open the Indexing Options icon in the Control Panel)

Click Advanced. Administrator permission is required. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

In the Advanced Options dialog box, click the Index Settings tab, and then click Rebuild. Administrator permission is required. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

I have listed no other files in the index list than the defaults but I actually UNCHECK the box in the Control Panel-Progams and Features-Turn Windows Features On or Off-Indexing Service. I find indexing to be unnecessary.

Hope this helps.
