how do i rename my ".mod" file

I recently got a jvc everion and it saves the file as ".mod" but only the software that came with the camcorder lets me view the file.How can i convert the file?

just change the .mod to .mpg

The MOD files are mpeg2 files and you can just rename them to .mpg.
Or, use my tool SDcopy which will do this for all MOD files it finds in a certain folder and all its subfolders.
In case you are recording in 16:9 format you will also see that just renaming to .mpg will not show the video in 16:9 format, instead it will always be shown in 4:3. SDcopy can also correct this by modifying a flag inside the mpg header.
