Vista 2012?
Dec 25, 2011 11:04PM PST

Is "Vista 2012" the complete name?

The reason I ask. There are quite a few variants of "2012 name-changing" rogues, which change their names randomly, depending on the version of Windows it's installed on. As an example, see the removal guides below.

You haven't included any of the signs or symptoms you're experiencing. In fact, you've given us very little to go by. With that said, the removal guides below include the same set of instructions. (FixNCR.reg, Rkill, TDSSKiller, MBAM)

Whichever looks the most familiar to you, scroll down to where you see, "Automated Removal Instructions using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware". Follow each step .. "to the letter".

Remove Win 7 Antispyware 2012 and Vista Antivirus 2012 name changing rogue (Uninstall Guide)
Remove Vista Home Security 2012 (Uninstall Guide)
Remove Vista Security 2012 (Uninstall Guide)

Some family of rogues will make as if certain files have been deleted, when in fact they haven't. They're hidden. IF you find this to be the case, please read the below:

Unhide.exe - A introduction as to what this program does

Best of luck..

Actually, this is not my computer getting this malicious program. I was just asked by my friend for help.

This "Vista 2012" seem to have taken over the computer. Every time when I try to turn the firewall on, a window popup to suggest me to purchase the full version or "remind me later." There is no way to uninstall it nor could its traces be found in startup menu or elsewhere within the OS.

It also couldn't be found in the startup procedure.

Did you follow ALL the steps in the guide?

You say you can't find it. And 'it couldn't be found'.

Do you mean YOU can't find it, or the tools listed in the guide couldn't detect it?

Thanks for your help.

Some times it IS necessary to run the tools again. The purpose of the Rkill tool is to terminate the offending (malicious) process. If you find, after running the "exe" format a few times, it doesn't work for you, then try the next until you get one to execute. When Rkill (sucessfully) runs you will see a command prompt window similar to this.

Make sure NOT to reboot, after running Rkill. Immediately scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

IF can't get Rkill to run, try the exeHelper. It's based on the same premise.
