Question

How do I register XP?

by HPJIII / June 10, 2014 1:36 AM PDT

I bought Win7 and tried to install it on my older desktop computer but the install "stalled" and after several attempts and hardware modifications I gave up.
Now, I have reinstalled XP. How do I register my old XP?
The program will only run for 30 days if not registered.

The screen will give a phone registration method if you can't do this online. As it's a big world, I won't list all the numbers here.

XP activation

Thanks, Bob, for the quick info.
BUT, I immediately ran into two problems. I'm trying to activate using the telephone but when I go through the menus as directed by the web site, there is no "Activate Windows" in the System Tools sub-menu. So, NO Telephone number appears.
Secondly, not too sure if this is a problem, all I have is the original "Operating System DC" that came with the Dell computer. There is nothing on the CD that remotely resembles the usual Win product activation code.

Many Dells would be pre-activated.

And the activation fails if the motherboard was replaced.

So for Dell issued XP, you don't activate in some cases so the menu item will be missing.

Tell more.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
