How do i reformat my computer?

I need a step by step on how to reformat my computer, also i need to know which programs i need to have before i do this. i have tried asking around and no one has been able to help me out so hopefully this is where i will receive answers thank you in advance!

Formatting is easy.

But when we format the hard drive in the computer it clears it off and there is no OS, no Windows so are you sure that's all you want?

Also, you may have to supply details such as make, model, what CDs you have and why not tell why you are doing this since maybe there's an easier fix.

Well, it is just really slow and i try to defrag it or whatever but it wont let me, the internal memory is pretty much full and i have tried to delete mass amounts of things off of the computer. so i would just like to start over with nothing on it at all lol. i have no cds but would be able to get whatever i need, it is a HP compaq desktop, and its pretty old

Many of those have either restore media or a factory restore option. Either destroy our files (well they used to and I'm going to say it will) but for now we can't start until the model number is supplied and what Restore Media you have to use is told.
