Re: virus

If you have a lot of viruses (how do you know that?) I would start all over by going back to factory condition. Then install antivirus software.

There is free antivirus software from Avast, Avira, AVG, Bitdefender, Kaspersky. The latest test I read said Bitdefender was the best, but other test might tell something different.

- install antivirus
- never click on unknown links in mails
- never click on links in fishing mails
- for visiting porn sites and such boot into Linux
- only use an administrator account when needed, not for browsing
- don't use hacked software

Since you asked about computer instead of windows

...If you want to keep almost all virus off your computer, install Linux Mint or Ubuntu MATE on it. You can still put an antivirus on it, but it's almost never needed, rarely even used on Linux computers. Check out Youtube videos about them.

Ubuntu MATE

Zorin OS

You also get complete control over updates, when you want them, the ones you want, blocking the ones you don't want, etc.

Re: computer in stead of Windows

It was asked in the Windows 7 forum. So a "solution" to replace Windows with Linux is kind of off-topic.

As you say you have plenty of virus the the OS may not be fixable.
Then it's what Kees said about a fresh install.

Not a recco but on this w7 machine I've used avast free for years.
It does not give me any fuss and updates often.
It has a bunch of shields you can enable but that creates a complex mess so I only use 3.

Don't expect any AV/AM product to shield you from not keeping the machine patched or bad surfing habits.
